The
Game Lodge, located near Malelane and the Kruger National Park within 4 000-ha
of pristine bushveld, offers visitors a very special, once-in-a-lifetime
opportunity to see the Rare Five (black rhino and white rhino, roan, sable,
tssessebe, red
hartebeest, as well as suni antelope and blue and red duiker).
To cap it all, the Big Five are only ten minutes’ drive away in the
Kruger National Park (access via Malelane Gate).
Combining with tranquil bushveld ambience, delicious cuisine, comfortable
accommodation, friendly staff and personal service, this game lodge offers a
unique wildlife experience to all its guests.
In
addition, the lodge is very conveniently situated off the N4 (‘Maputo
Corridor’) highway. It lies some 30 minutes’ drive from Nelspruit, 15 minutes
from Malelane and 10 minutes from the Kruger National Park’s Malelane Gate.
The Game Lodge is also only an hour’s drive from Maputo, making it a
perfect stop-over for people travelling to/from Mozambique.
The
Game Lodge accommodates up to 24 people sharing in 8 standard rondavels and 2
luxury suites. Rondavels are
thatched, en-suite and comfortably furnished.
They are all fully air-conditioned with overhead fans.
Two luxury suites are situated a short distance from the main lodge.
These are en-suite with bath and shower, mini-bars, air conditioning, and tea/coffee service. Each suite has
its own private
verandah. Attractive
communal areas are linked with facebrick-and-thatch beneath enormous shady
trees. Facilities comprise two
lounges (one with satellite TV and bar area), dining area, splash pool and
elevated wooden deck (used as a unique open-air conference facility for up to 22
delegates).
Wildlife
activities include game drives and guided bush walks.
Game drives through pristine bushveld scenery average three hours and
guests can expect to see a wide variety of game. Apart from the popular general
game species such as giraffe, zebra, wildebeest and a number of antelope
species, the game lodge offers the unique opportunity of seeing the “Rare 5” – black rhino ; roan antelope; sable antelope; tssessebe
and red hartebeest. Visitors may
also see the roan and disease-free buffalo breeding projects on the reserve.
Eland and gemsbok (not often found in this wildlife region), together
with hippo, crocodiles, a large variety of birds and up to 40 or 50 of our 100 white rhino seen together
at one time, make for spectacular game viewing.
For
guests travelling with children, a tame herd of zebras, together with Timone,
the meerkat, wander through the gardens of the lodge, in close proximity to the
rondawels and public areas. Timone,
in particular, delights all with his antics.
4x4 trails for off-road enthusiasts are now available. A qualified eco-guide will lead visitors through a series of twists and turns and some of the steepest gradients (30°- 45°) available – straight to the top of the Onderberg range.
Day
visitors welcome. The Game Lodge offers opportunities for day visitors to do a
three-hour game drive or horse trail combined with brunch or a four-course
dinner.
